Did you know that fiber can help you fight the belly bulge? I don’t know about you, but I have gone through periods where I felt bloated and have had people ask me how far along I was. Has that ever happen to you? You’d think people would know not to ask a woman that question right? But, it’s been asked to me more than once in the past.
Fiber helps reduce the risk of diabetes, heart disease, and lowers high cholesterol. According to the National Academy of Science , the recommended dosage of fiber is 25 grams per day, but the average American gets around 8 – 12 grams.
Tanya Zuckerbrot, MS, RD the creator of the popular F-Factor Diet, says that fiber promotes weight loss by acting as a sponge in your digestive tract and absorbs calories, carbs, fats, and sugars. She says that for every gram of fiber ingested, your body excretes an average of 7 calories. Researchers at the US Department of Agriculture’s Human Nutrition Research Center, found that women who increase their fiber intake to at least 24 grams per day have a 9.4 loss of weight in a one year period. If she adds exercise and a healthy diet to that, there could be even more weight loss.
Eating plant based foods is a great way to get fiber into your system. Here are some foods that are rich in fiber to include into your diet:
- Eat whole fruits instead of fruit juice.
- Snack on veggies.
- Make vegetables a main course.
- Add a filling vegetable salad instead of a starchy salad as a side dish with meals.
- Enjoy a bowl of vegetable-based broth soup before meals.
- Start the day with a high-fiber cereal topped with fruit and low-fat dairy.
- Eat more beans.
- Make all your grains whole and limit them to a few servings each day.
- Add nuts and seeds to your weight loss plan, but keep the portions small because they are high in fiber and calories.
On his show, Dr. Oz spoke about a fiber called Glucomannan, which is a sugar made from the root of the konjac plant (Amorphophallus konjac). Glucommanan powder, capsules, and tablets are used as medicine.
Glucomannan is a unique all natural soluble dietary fiber that Expands 50 Times Its Size in your stomach helping you overcome the #1 enemy of weight management … overeating. Skinny Fiber is a great source to get your Glucomannan.
How does it work? Glucomannan works in the stomach and intestines by absorbing water to form a bulky fiber which treats constipation. It may also slow the absorption of sugar and cholesterol from the gut, helping to control sugar levels in diabetes, and reducing cholesterol levels, and aids in weight loss in adults and children.

Dietary fiber is an essential for a healthy diet. Fibre is a very important part of our diet, but many of us don’t eat enough of it. The government in the UK spends much on the message ’5 a day’ but in truth i don’t think it makes enough difference.

What is ’5 a day’ Larry? I have never heard of this. Here in the US it seems we don’t talk about the importance of fiber enough.
